3/2/12 A cold day, with sun, warming overnight!

A cold front which pushed through New England last night has moved to the south. This front will stall just south of Long Island for much of the day today allowing a cold flow of air from Canada to filter in over a freshly fallen snow pack. This will not allow temperatures to get out the upper 30s today.

High pressure will keep temperatures cool over New England today. A MAJOR storm is developing over the Ohio Valley today surging warm moist air northward. This will bring extreme severe weather to parts of TN, KY and OH today. This surging air will move in overnight into the New England as a warm front.

Today's high temperatures across New England. Where snow has fallen, temperatures will have a hard time rising out of the 30s today as any solar energy will first be used to melt the snow, then warm the ground and air. Where there is no snow, the air will warm faster and temperatures will get into the 40's.  (This is one reason why the winter has been so mild, lack of snow)

Of important note. A very serious severe weather threat is expected today over the Ohio Valley. This event could rival other famous tornado outbreaks that have happened in the past.

A late evening Thunderstorm could pop up over Western New England
A cold front will push through New England Saturday afternoon and could trigger a thunderstorm or two.

Saturday - A warm front ushers in heavy rain overnight and pushes temperatures into the 50's. Some areas north and west of Boston where snowfall is deep could see some Freezing Rain tonight, then warm.  Expect rain to be heaviest around 8 AM - 2 PM.  A cold front will bring a possible  thunderstorm between 2 & 4 tomorrow afternoon.
