3/10/12 A mini snow event.. then warming up!

The disturbance that moved out of the Great Lakes overnight, developed into a mini- Nor Easter off Cape Cod this morning, throwing back a heavy band of snow for the immediate coastline.  Unlike the major Nor'easters which cover a lot of real estate. This low fits nicely in Cape Cod bay.
An event like this is called a meso scale event, meaning more localized.

This low has already rotated its moisture south of Boston this morning and will continue to pull away from the coast bringing snows to the immediate coast of the south shore and some rains for Cape Cod. Sunshine will break out for most of the Boston area by mid morning.

It will be mostly sunny with temperatures climbing to the lower 40s today

Warmer air returns for the week ahead!

3/9/12 2 Days of Cold - then a return to warmth & Spring Forward

I am sure you are waking up this morning saying, "well, that was nice while it lasted".  Yes, that was a cold front, but nicely, the cold air will only bring up back to normal and by Sunday, it will be mild again! (and it will stick around longer)

The cold front will continue to push off the coast and clearing will take place throughout the morning hours.

However, the air aloft if quite cold and pop up clouds and showers will be possible after 1 PM today and by 4 PM, scattered showers are likely across parts of MA.

Todays high in Boston will be 45.

The type of showers are scattered in nature and are typical as a cold air mass moves overhead of a warmer surface with sun shining through.

That is snow that you see on the map as well, a few flurries can be seen overnight in the Boston area and some areas west and north of Boston could see an inch of snow. Higher in the Berkshires.

Light snow will fall especially over Southern NH and VT and the Merrimack Valley. Only flurries are expected in the Boston area.

Saturday will be chilly across the Boston area with a few morning flurries, leading to sunshine by later morning.

A warming trend will continue on Sunday into next week, and in fact, by March 20, temperatures could climb into the 70s!

3/8/12 Bring on Spring -

If you liked yesterday, you will love today!  Temperatures will climb once again into the mid 60s today with lots of sunshine!

A few clouds will roll in from time to time mixed with sunshine. The bulk of the heavier clouds and rain does not arrive until around 5 or 6 PM today.
The forecast radar showing scattered showers over much of the northeast at 8 PM tonight. Expect much of the rain to break up as it heads toward the east, but showers are expected from 10 PM thru 8 AM tomorrow morning.
After the cold front pushes through, it will cool down to seasonable levels with highs back into the 40s. This may be the last cold wave for quite some time as the model data indicates much warmer temperatures return by Sunday and into the following week.

3/7/12 Mild weather - look for an Aurora!

Not much change in the thinking of whats happening. A brief warm up is here with highs nearing 20 degrees above normal for tomorrow.

Today - Bright sunshine with a high in the mid 50s

Thursday - a stiff south wind will bring in temperatures into the mid 60s for the day. Clouds will approach late in the afternoon, likely after sunset, with a few showers beginning around 10 PM.

Friday - A cold front pushes through overnight with a few sprinkles left over for the morning commute, then clearing.

Temperatures will fall for the weekend, BUT.. this may be one of the last cold spells for the next 2 weeks as a shift to mild weather returns for mid March!!

NOAA outlook for March 12-16 showing much of the country is above normal in for temperatures!
NOTE:  A solar storm is happening and could produce a very pronounced Aurora over the northern States for the next few nights. Take a look (if light pollution does not get in the way)

3/6/12 A nice warming trend..

Warmer weather is on the way this week!

As noted yesterday, high pressure will build to the east allowing a warm flow of air to come up from the south and warm our temperatures into the mid 60s by Thursday!  A cold front approaches overnight Thursday with some showers but should clear out by day break.

3/5/12 A Sunny Stretch.. Cold to start - Mild to finish

Cold Canadian high pressure will bring a touch of winter back into the Northeast for today and tomorrow. Expect temperatures to be below normal for these two days with highs only in the 30s and nighttime lows back into the teens.

A weak low pressure over Virginia is bringing light snows to that area of the country. This low will track south of Cape Cod today. A few thick clouds on the Cape may be expected as the low strengthens. For the Boston area, just a few passing clouds can be forecast.  A strong high over the central US will move east by Wednesday and the southwest winds will usher in Spring like temperatures into Thursday with highs reaching the 60s for most areas. A storm over southern California will bring the chance of rain and a cold front with it overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

Clockwise winds around High pressure will bring in mild air from the south on Wednesday and Thursday with high temperatures reaching the 60s for southern New England. A cold front will push through overnight on Thursday into early Friday morning and drop temperatures back to the 40s.   Mild weather returns late next weekend.

3/4/12 March Highlights & the Week Ahead Forecast

Sunday Weather - Clouds for much of the day today. High 43.  Rain for the Cape.

The line of clouds was expected to stay about 60 miles further out to sea than it ended up today, so the forecast that did call for sunshine today has been replaced with clouds.  Areas on the Cape will see some scattered rain showers today. The whole system moves slowly eastward today clearing from west to east and reaching Boston by 5 PM. Some peaks of sun will be seen by mid afternoon.

Cold weather returns for Monday and Tuesday and then a return to mild 60 degree weather for mid and late week!
